Some graphs charting Metafilter usage over the last 9 years.
P.S. If anyone is looking for something interesting to do, running a machine learning algorithm to categorize front page posts over the years would be fascinating (but not quite fascinating enough for me to do it).
I'm not sure what to make of the final uptick in "Users Last Seen". March 15 is the last day on the graph and the people included there are ones who had not commented again by June 15. The fact that the upswing starts in early 2018 leads me to believe it is not a end-of-data artifact. In addition, there are 4534 commenters who were active in both 2014 and 2018, but there is only an overlap of 3535 for 2014 and 2019 thus far. An alternative graph of "Users last seen". This one was done by calculating the longest gap in a user's history and checking to see if they were currently exceeding it at the end of the data. I'm not too sure about this technique, but it is an alternative take.
